The word ‘Padwa’ signifies the first day of the lunar fortnight and means hope and optimism. It marks the welcoming of the spring season. Basically, it's a harvest festival and is as well known as Ugadi in Telugu, Yugadi in Kannada, Cheti Chand in Sindhi and Navreh in Kashmir.

No festival is complete without proper food, Gudi Padwa is no exception. Dishes like Puran Poli, Kanangachi Kheer and alike are famous on this day.
