Starting from the daguerreotype photographic process founded by Joseph Nicephore Niepce and Louis Daguerre the French state not only bought the patent of this research but also announced it as a gift to the whole world. This experimental daguerreotype process and purchase of the license and its release by the French government were the two historical developments which inspired the celebration of World Photography Day.
A day on which people celebrate photography from amateur photographer, photo enthusiast, to professional photographer, August 19 could be a day with which you embrace your love for photography. It is up to you what to do and how to celebrate it. I celebrate August 19 by clicking photos artistically at an old made up a photo studio at the NCPA in Mumbai to celebrate an activity that has been in existence for over 170 years. From tin type to wet plate - a lot is possible.
