Walking since some years into different quarters of Hanoi I found it quite astonishing to see lately a lot birds of prey at different locations. Wondering as well if the birds are hold to their characteristics and if they are actually used for hunting or at least given the possibility to behave like in their natural circumstances I happened to pass by as one of the Vietnamese falconers started to train his bird.

Falconry has been an art for hundreds of years and still is in certain regions of the world. It isn’t an easy art to practice. It requires long hours, constant devotion, finesse, subtlety and skill from the falconer. The training of the birds of prey to fly free and at the same time hunt for a human being and then accept a return to captivity is not an easy achievement.

Normally a beginner must learn about the various gaming birds, their stages of life, characteristics, prey, care, feeding and suitability and not at least about the hunting environment. Than there are the problems about proper housing the rules and regulations that affect the sport and the laws that apply to birds of prey.
